Why doesn't the barcode work?

Troubleshooting barcodes that are not working or not being recognized correctly.

Written by Syed Aftab Hussani

When printing labels in Autodesk Fusion Operations, you may occasionally notice that a barcode is not printing as expected, appears incomplete, or does not generate at all. If this happens, there are several common causes to consider, outlined below.

1. Is the label tag formatted correctly?

If the text inside the barcode tag is too long, the barcode may not print correctly.

In such cases, when the value being printed has a longer length, you may need to add extra spaces after the label tag to ensure the barcode is rendered correctly.

In the screenshot below, the barcode label tag is without the extra spaces (check the grey area).

In this screenshot, the extra blank spaces have been added after the barcode label tag (the grey area increased).

2. Is the label tag supported on that screen?

Autodesk Fusion Operations supports two types of barcodes:

  • Internal Barcodes – These are supported only within the Fusion Operations application and are intended for internal system use.

  • External Barcodes – These can be recognized by other systems in addition to the Fusion Operations app. To use external barcodes, please contact the support team for configuration.

Additionally, some barcode tags are only supported in specific areas of the system.

For example, a tag that works in Production may not be supported in Inventory Movements

All the label tags supported in Autodesk Fusion Operations can be found here.

FAQs

1. Are there any other causes that may prevent the barcode from being read?

Yes, if the barcode size is too small, then the system mail fails to read that barcode. Click here to learn how to increase/decrease the size of the barcode.

2. Why am I getting the error "Product not found. -...." when scanning the barcode?

Probably you are using external barcodes. How to know if you are using external barcodes? Are they generated in Fusion Operations? If the answer is no please reach out to the support team to configure the external barcode.
