If you have Lot Traceability enabled in Autodesk Fusion Operations, you can generate lot numbers for your products when producing them, allowing you to track a product’s journey from production to the customer and even extract a Lot Traceability Report.

Note: To assign lot numbers when receiving products, check our articles on Receiving.

There are two ways to do this, Automatic (called Auto Lots) and Manual (manual input of lot numbers by workers).

Automatic lot generation

To access those options go to Settings -> Traceability.

There are two Auto Lots options available :

  • Auto generate lots on production, in operations with lot input active (1)

  • Auto generate lots for each product on production orders (2)

Auto generate lots on production, in operations with lot input active enables the automatic generation of lot numbers during production, the formats available for lot generation are described further down. You must activate the option of 'Allow to input lot number' in the step/operation where your process should generate lot numbers.

Auto generate lots for each product on production orders it generates lots automatically for each “product row” of the production order. The lot will appear in the production order “Lot/Batch Number” field.

Note: For this option, you shouldn't enable “Allow to input lot number” in any operation.

For both Auto Lots options you'll need to configure the 'AUTO LOT GENERATION FORMAT':

We have several tags available you can use to compose the template for the automatic lots, they are :

  • [YY] - Partial Year in which the production happened, last 2 numbers (2022 = 22)

  • [MM] - Month in which the production happened

  • [DD] - Day in which the production happened

  • [YYYY] - Year in which the production happened

  • [DDD] - Julian Date

  • [INDEX] - An Index that will increase based on the order of creation to differentiate lots created with the same format (For example, if the format were[MM]/[DD]/[YY] - [INDEX], two lots created in the same day would be [MM]/[DD]/[YY] - 1 and [MM]/[DD]/[YY] - 2)

  • [GLOBALINDEX] - An Index that will increase regardless of the product, so that the lots' increment is not repeated in case different products are received / products.

  • [PRODUCTION ORDER] - Code of the production order

  • [PRODUCT CODE] - Code of the product produced

  • [PRODUCT NAME] - Name of the product produced

  • [PURCHASE ORDER] - Code of the purchase order received. Only applies to when a raw material is being received.

  • [PRODUCT SPEC=X] - Value of the custom field associated with the product, where X represents the custom field name. If you need help setting up a custom field, reach out to the support chat.

Manual lot generation

You'll also need to activate the option “Allow to input lot number” in an operation, but the Auto Lots should not be enabled. After, your workers can input the lot number manually when producing.

On the tablet, workers will see the option below, in which they can manually introduce the lot.

FAQ:

1. Are there other options for tags or ways to define Auto lots that include the Sales orders code?

Yes, it's possible to carry over information from Sales orders to Production orders. To have more information on how to add the Sales order code and other fields to the "product row" lot number, reach out to us through our or to your Account Manager.
